Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are

Video Speed Controller ("VSC", "we", "our", or "the Extension") is a free Chrome browser extension that lets users control video playback speed on any website. This Privacy Policy explains what data the Extension accesses, how it is used, and your rights.

2. Data We Collect

We do not collect any personally identifiable information. The Extension operates entirely within your browser. Specifically:

• We do not collect your name, email address, IP address, or any contact information.
• We do not track which websites you visit.
• We do not log or transmit your browsing history.
• We do not access the content of videos you watch.
• We do not sell or share data with third parties.

3. Local Storage

The Extension stores a small amount of data locally in your browser using chrome.storage.local and chrome.storage.sync. This data includes:

• Playback speed preference — the speed value you set per tab, so it persists when you switch tabs.
• Blacklisted sites — the list of websites where you have disabled speed control (e.g. instagram.com, facebook.com).
• Installation date — the date the Extension was installed, stored locally and used only to decide when to show the "Rate Us" prompt.
• Anonymous user ID — a randomly generated UUID stored locally. This ID is never transmitted anywhere and is used solely to distinguish a fresh install from an update on your own device.

This data never leaves your browser unless you have Chrome Sync enabled, in which case your own Google account syncs it across your own devices — we have no access to this data.

4. Permissions Explained

The Extension requests the following Chrome permissions and here is exactly why:

• storage — to save your speed preference and blacklist locally (see Section 3).
• activeTab — to apply the playback speed to the video in the current tab when you interact with the popup.
• host_permissions (*://*/*) — required for the content script to inject into web pages and apply the playback speed to any HTML5 video element, on any domain you visit.

No permission is used for tracking, advertising, or data collection of any kind.

5. Third-Party Services

The Extension does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. No data is sent to any external server by the Extension itself.

The Chrome Web Store listing is governed by Google's Privacy Policy. We have no control over data collected by Google through the Web Store.

6. Children's Privacy

Video Speed Controller is a general-purpose browser utility and is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can investigate and delete it.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify users through the Chrome Web Store. Continued use of the Extension after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
